Sectionals @ Palatine (Deer Grove F. P. ) - Eric Rodriguez ran well, but was not able to advance to the State meet. Eric finished 57th in the sectional, running 15:37 on the 2.9 course. Eric is very much of a team runner, the experience without a team behind him will make him a better runner for next season.

Regionals - @ Rolling Meadows (Sauk Park) - The Cats bounced back from their performance at Conference and ran a very strong race at the Regional. There were 8 conference schools in our regional for the first time ever, it created a challege we were not able to overcome. Eric Rodriguez (16:02) was able to qualify out of the regional finishing 22nd overall in 16:02. Ken Diedrich (16:09) come up 2 places short of advancing, a fall on one of the three bridges that had to be crossed on the course might have impacted his end result. Ken finished his senior season finishing 27th and only 6 seconds behind the last qualifier. Ken was followed by seniors Toni Segura (32nd), Norbert Gajos (38th) and Mark Swakow (55th) to round out the top 5. Sophomores Victor Gonzalez (62nd) and Rob Meier 57th) both earned valuable experience for next season. We graduate 6 seniors this season, their experience will be missed.

MSL Conference - A perfect day for cross country, overcast conditions, no wind, 55 degrees on a fast course at Deer Grove in Palatine. The outcome wasn't what we had hoped for but we still had some good and exceptional performances. Leading the cats was Eric Rodriguez in 15:08 (27th) on the 2.9 mile course. Eric's time adjusted for three miles gives him a 20 second personal best (15:39). Following Eric were Toni Segura (15:38)(44th)(matched personal best), Ken Diedrich (15:42)(49th), Norbert Gajos (16:12)(64th), Mark Swakow (16:28)(71st), David Martin (17:00)(75th) and Ryan Konkul (17:12)(76th). The frosh-soph finished 8th with several strong efforts. Every frosh-soph athlete ran a personal best 2.5 mile time, on the way to completing the 2.9 mile course. They were led by Sophomore Victor Gonzalez (16th) (16:21), Rob Meier (22nd) 16:27, Kevin Koranda 17:10 , Jon Kirby 17:12, Kevin Warner 19:14, Mike Chmiel 18:54 and Kevin Ollerer 20:17.

Wildcat Inv. - We have dealt with cold, wind, even rain, but never this kind of heat for the first week in October. The 85 degree temps effected the times, but did not melt the competition at the largest Wildcat Invite in many years. Twenty boys and girls teams participated this year with over 1300 runners participating. The Cats ran to an 8th place team finish, but ran without their #4 runner Norbert Gajos who suffered a minor injury on friday. The Cats that did run ran exceptionally, taking on all challengers. At just past the 2.5 mile mark, the cats had 3 runners in the top 10. The Cats finished with Eric Rodriguez 12th, Ken Diedirch 14th, Toni Segura 18th, Mark Swakow 56th, David Martin 85th, and Ryan Konkul 95th. On the frosh-soph side again the Cats competed without their #4 runner Kevin Koranda, but had several outstanding performances. Victor Gonzalez led the team with an 8th place finish in 14:31, he was followed by Rob Meier 14th in 14:41, Jon Kirby 25th in 15:06, Lukasz Los 89th in 16:45, Mike Chmiel 105th in 17:09, Kevin Warner 106th in 17:10 and Kevin Ollerer 18:34.

Peoria Inv. - The varsity headed south to Peoria for the Peoria Inv.and ran our best race of the season. The cats finished 12th out of 49 teams. The MSL was well represented with 5 teams in the top 12. The Cats were led by Ken Diedrich in 49th (15:52) with a season best time, and only 2 seconds off of his personal best. Ken has made a strong resurgence in the last two weeks. Following Ken, were Eric Rodriguez (65th - 16:01), Toni Segura (78th-16:11), Norbert Gajos (84th-16:14), Mark Swakow - (146th -16:50) and Ryan Konkul (288th - 18:15). All but one ran or tied personal records on the Detwiller Park Course.

Niles West Inv. - The Frosh-Soph team headed for Niles West this year. The Sophomores finished 5th in the White Division. The Cats were lead by Rob Meier (11:12-15th), Victor Gonzalez (11:13-16th), Jon Kirby (11:39-25th), Kevin Koranda (11:52-34th) and Kevin Warner (12:53-63rd).

Tri vs. BG @ Elk Grove - Our cats put on a solid effort in order to upset Buffalo Grove, but came up short in the end. At one point in the meet after the two mile, BG and the Cats were only down by 1 point. We are continuing to improve and are starting to believe that we can run with the teams we need to beat in order to get out of our regional.

Dual vs. Prospect - The cats ran their first home meet of the season vs. Prospect. Prospect was able to prevail 23-32 primarily because they were able to have their top 3 run away from the rest of the field. We took the next 4 places, but that was not enough.

Rockford Inv. - Sat. - The trip to Rockford this year has become a little nastalgic. The Cats finished a close 3rd, edged out by Rockford Auburn 46, Belvidere North 56 and Wheeling 68. This marks only the 2nd time in the last 12 years that the Cats have not won the title. In our defense we were running without Swakow who was taking ACT exam. The cats were lead by Eric Rodriguez (9th, 16:06), followed closely Ken Diedrich (10th 16:10). This was the strongest performance for Ken this season. Norbert Gajos (13th 16:27) and Toni Segura (14th, 16:28) both had strong top 15 finishes on the new course run for the last time at Elliot Golf Course. The Cats 5th man again was Ryan Konkul running a personal best 17:20 and finishing 33rd. Rounding out the varsity was junior David Martin running a season best 17:52. The frosh-soph had a solid performance finishing 5th out of the 15 teams.

Dual @ Hersey (Wed.) - The Cats ran at Melas Park vs. Hersey on wednesday. We rested Toni Segura and Eric Rodriguez, both recovering from colds. Ken Diedrich (4th) attempted to join the party with the top three Hersey runners. Swakow (5th) and Gajos (6th), were followed by Konkul (10th) and Martin (11th) and sophomore Gonzalez (13th). The meet was a chance to get some experience for some.

Lake Park Inv. - The heat finally broke a little and the cats ran much better. The Varsity finished a respectable 5th place behind 4 state ranked teams. We scored 126 pts, behind, Lake Parks 90, DGN 78, Schaumburgs 50 and 2nd in state Naperville North 34. The cats were lead by Eric Rodriguez in 14th (15:58 PR), Toni Segura (21st (16:14 PR), Ken Diedrich 23rd (16:17), Norbert Gajos 27th (16:30 PR), Mark Swakow 40th (16:54 PR) and Ryan Konkul 18:07. We are making good progress, they are getting more aggressive and doing great jobs of moving up throughout the race. With the regional assignments out, we are heading to RM and a tough 10 team regional where any of 9 teams can get out.

Sept 6th - @ Rolling Meadows - The cats ran a smart and agressive race to beat RM 26-29. The Cats were lead by Eric Rodriguez 2nd, Toni Segura (3rd), Ken Diedrich (4th) then followed by Mark Swakow (8th) and Ryan Konkul (9th). We ran a little short handed because of illness, but it brought out the best in Ryan Konkul who kicked down the RM 5th man to ensure the victory!! Yes I did say kick. The frosh -soph earned their first victory of the season defeating RM by going 1-2-3 lead by Victor Gonzalez, Kevin Koranda and Jon Kirby.

Crystal Lake South Inv. - The wildcats performed well this past saturday. The varsity finished 6th with 154 points. The meet was won by McHenry with 72 points, followed by Dundee-Crown(90), Cary-Grove(111), Glenbrook South (124), Fremd (134). The addition of GBS and Fremd did improve the quality of the meet. The cats were lead by Eric Rodriguez in (14th) 17:59, he was following by a hard charging Norbert Gajos (23rd), Ken Diedrich (31st) Toni Segura (36th), Mark Swakow (50th), Ryan Konkul (57th) and David Martin (66th). Both Eric and Norbert improved upon their performances from last year, Ryan and Mark matched their time finishes, and Ken, Toni and David ran well considering this was their first time racing at the tough 5k course at crystal lake.

Thursdays weather was perfect and the course at Deer Grove was dry, which made it fast. The 2.95 mile course has historicallly been fast, and continued to be when looking at our Varsity times. The team result was 16-45 in Palatine's favor. They are a top 5 in state team. I was proud of out teams effort many running negative splits over the last mile (even adjusted times). We were lead by Eric Rodriguez in 15:56, followed by Ken Diedrich 16:09, Toni Segura 16:19, Norbert Gajos 16:28 and Mark Swkaow 16:50. That gives us 4 under 17 to start the year. Ryan Konkul ran 17:10 as our number 6 and David Martin (first timer) 17:28. Overall I was please with the effort and look forward to making improvements between not and Conference which is also at the same course.

Our season has officially begun. We practice daily after school at 3:10 pm. Anyone still interested in participating, should arrive at practice or see Coach Polak during the day in room 107. Any freshman who has participated during the summer or not in encourage to get started with us.

Our upperclassmen have completed the work that is needed to be competitive. We have several athletes who have surpassed 500 miles for the summer already. Several more close to accomplishing this task in the next week or so. The underclassmen have worked hard this summer, and need a race to get some positive feedback.

Our annual trip to Stockton,IL at Camp Wallace was a success. The weather was awesome. Even had a little time for an alpine slide on this trip. The varsity is pictured in front of the log cabin some slept in.
