Courtesy: First, Last, and Always! Respect others' right to learn.
Assignments: Be accountable! Your work is a reflection of yourself. All work should be neat, legible, on standard size paper, and written in pencil. Each homework activity is worth a maximum of 5 points, if turned in on time. With each assignment, unless specified, there is a two-day grace period. If the assignment is turned in within the two-day grace period, a maximum of 3 points can be earned. No assignments can be turned in for credit after the two-day grace period.
Homework Point Break Down: Heading (name, period, date, page #’s, problem #’s)-----------------------------------------1pt. Completion (every problem has been attempted, answers circled)------------------4pts. In order to receive ANY credit, every HW problem must be attempted. If for some reason the problem is not understood, you must record a question in place of the solution.
Absenteeism: If absent from class for any reason, you are responsible for obtaining the class material and making up the required work missed. List two classmates' ____________________ _____________________ ___________________ names, phone #, and e-mail address ____________________ _____________________ ___________________
Missed tests must be made up within two weeks from students’ return. Tests/Quizzes can be made up in the assessment center or in C132 during seminar. Take responsibility for your grade. I will not make any attempts to chase you down, those who miss tests/quizzes must complete them within two weeks of their return.
Resources: Utilize the textbooks, as they have been chosen for a reason. These textbooks not only supplement the class, but also are a major part of it. Treat your mathematics textbook just as you would any other book. In other words, READ IT! In addition to the written assignment, you are expected to read the section for the next class meeting. If for any reason you can not find time to meet with me, there is a number of other mathematics instructors available. In addition, there are several students who have successfully passed this course, which you could seek assistance from.
Evaluation: Your grade will be based primarily on your performance on tests and quizzes. Daily class work and preparation of assignments give you the best opportunity to master those skills needed to do well, and will have an impact on your grade. Students who meet the criteria will be awarded the following grades: 90.0 - 100% A 80.0 - 89.9% B 70.0 - 79.9% C 60.0 - 69.9% D 0 - 59.9% F Specific class percentage breakup: Geom 472 Pre-Calc 494 Funct 476 Tests/Quizzes/Projects 70% 75% 75% Homework/Class Activities/Class Participation/Attendance 10% 10% 10% HW Quizzes 20% 15% 15%
Extra Credit: There will be opportunities for earning extra credit. If students are able to show me that at least 75% of their work has been completed by the next day, (the day class does not meet) 1 extra point will be given on that assignment. Any current event article related to the topic previously covered or currently covering, when accompanied with a brief summary will receive a maximum of 5pts, with a maximum of 5 presentations a semester, per student. Also, in order to keep my web page current and useful, students who discover new internet sites, which they found helpful, can submit a summary of the site for 5 points (maximum of 5 throughout semester). There must be at least three (3) class meetings between each presentation and internet site. Furthermore, throughout the semester there may be opportunities to make corrections on tests and quizzes. You will all be made aware of when the opportunity arises for this type of extra credit. |
