Course Materials/Textbooks: Algebra 1: Concepts and Skills by: McDougal Littell Grading System: Course Categories: Classwork: 5% Homework: 20% Quiz: 25% Test: 50% Grading Scale: A: 90 - 100 B: 80 - 89 C: 70 - 79 D: 60 - 69 F: Below 60 Habits of Work: Students are expected to be cooperative in the classroom while completing classwork. Both class work and homework is counted in a student's grade. If there is little effort on classwork and homework, students will probably not perform well in this class. Homework Policy/Procedures: Homework must be completed the night it is assigned. The next day of school after homework is assigned is the time for you to check answers and ask questions. If you don't have your assignment done (or at least part of it), then you miss out on learning from your mistakes or other's mistakes. Also, in math the material we learn today helps us understand tomorrow's content. If you don't understand yesterday's assignment, your chances of success today are much less. Make-up Policy/Procedures: If you have an excused absence, we follow the school's policy for make-up work. Basically, talk to me and we will agree on a final due date. Statistically, the longer students go before making up tests and quizzes, the worse they do. So, if you're absent on the day of a quiz or test, the odds are with you to take it as soon as possible. Assessments: 1) Possibly a homework quiz on day homework is due. This is sometimes done in their group. 2) A quiz in the middle of every chapter and as often as possible at the end as well before the test. 3) A test at the end of every chapter. Ways to Get Help or Assistance: 1. See me during Block C if you have a study hall. 2. Go to the Learning Center located in the Library any time during the day for help. 2. Make an appointment with me for after school.
