  • In order to implement the District Academic Integrity Policy, teachers should request students add a handwritten statement to all major assignments indicating its authenticity. For example, "I certify this paper (test, etc.) is my own work. Student Signature"
     
  • Does it HAVE to be a paper?

  • Multimedia presentation - accompanied by an oral report
  • Brochure - to advertise a product, a place, etc.
  • Resume & Cover Letter - an alternate biography
  • Debate - choose two historical figures and an issue
  • Mock Trial - for a controversial historical figure
  • Trip Itinerary - list sites of importance, money exchange, special events, etc.
  • Newsletter - set in another time or place complete with classified ads, theater and book reviews, sports stories and business information
  • Picture Book - explain concept or event through pictures and captions
  • A Day in the Life - essay written in the first person about a disease, person, plant, machine, etc.

  • It HAS to be a paper!

  • Specific Topic - use a pre approved list of unique topics or those with a narrow focus
  • Current resources - within the past year
  • Annotated bibliography - brief summary of the source, where it was located and an evaluation of its usefulness
  • Final Reflection Letter - written in class after turning in paper, reflecting on process, major accomplishment, most difficult aspect, what was learned
  • Process Steps - series of due dates throughout the assignment for topic, outline, rough draft, preliminary bibliography, etc.
  • Specific components - incorporate information provided in class, particular resources, etc.
  • Oral presentation - students recognize the need to be very familiar with the content

  • Intellectual Property discussion - stress the importance of giving credit
  • Parental signature - parents become part of the process
  • Peer editing - non-threatening environment
  • Rough draft in class - comparison for final product
  • Research Log - why topic was chosen, resources used, people/books/articles consulted, most and least helpful resources
  • Alternating assignments - prevents recycled projects
  • Different weights - each step of the process has a predetermined weight in the final grade
  • Different fonts, styles or colored ink - black ink = original material, green ink = paraphrased, etc.
