The 2002 Mustang Boys Track & Field Team began their season posting a 6-7 indoor season record and finishing 4th at the Sterling Invite. Nick Trapani and Dave Viken were invited and competed in the Illinois Prep Top Times Meet, where Dave placed 6th. In addition the 3200 Relay team of Matt Brown, Dan Raleigh, Mike Koralik and Dave Grunschel broke a 25 year old indoor school record at the Urbana Invite finishing in 8:27.0

The outdoor season was highlighted by personal achievements and the Varsity and Frosh/Soph both finished 1-4, a fifth place finish in the divisional standings. The scores from the varsity conference dual meets were as follows:

In Invitationals, the Mustangs placed 6th at Willowbrook, 6th at the Mustang Classic, 11th at the Conant Classic, 14th at West Aurora and 11th at the MSL Conference Meet as did the Frosh/Soph team. At the MSL Conference Meet, Dave Viken won the pole vault with a new Junior School Record of 15'-0".

At the IHSA Sectional Meet, Dave Viken qualified in the pole vault in very poor weather conditions. In addition, the 3200 Relay team of Tim Piergalski, Dave Grunschel, Mike Koralik and Matt Brown narrowly missed the qualifying time by running 8:07.6, but were the only team in the meet to improve their time. This was the 2nd fastest time in RMHS school history. At the IHSA State Meet, Dave Viken cleared 14'-6" and finished tied for 4th place ending a tremendous individual season.

The following awards were given at the end of the season: Most Improved Athletes: Senior Charles Maxwell, Junior Mark Winslow, Junior Dave Viken and Sophomore Rob Vreeland. Coaches Awards were given to: Senior Frank Weglarz, Senior Brian Wiebe and Junior Wes Parquette.
